BEST BUY LISTS THE SAMSUNG SERIES 7 NP700 IVY BRIDGE-BASED LAPTOP
The Samsung Series 7 laptop lineup is going to get updated with 17 inch models. Best Buy has already uploaded the product pages for a Series 7 laptop called NP700G7C-S01US. The most interesting thing about this laptop is its quad-core Intel Core i7-3610QM Ivy Bridge processor. We haven’t come across many product listings with Ivy Bridge chips. These are the processors that will replace the Sandy Bridge line of Core i-series processors.
The product listing for the NP700 states that it will have 2TB of storage. That probably means that it will have a dual hard drive setup. It will support up to 16GB of RAM. The model that Best Buy lists is priced at $1,915.99. Surprisingly the product page says that it will ship in 1-2 weeks. It could be an error, though, because the Ivy bridge-based laptops are not expected to hit the market before April.

CTL LAUNCHES CLASSMATE PC WITH ATOM CEDAR TRAIL PROCESSOR
Intel has updated its Classmate PC reference design with the latest Atom Cedar Trail processors. The new Classmate computers are more rugged, have improved touch features and get longer battery life.
The Intel Classmate computers are designed for students. They sport a rugged design, built-in handles and education-focused software. CTL, a company that has already launched several Classmate PCs, showed off their latest model at CES this week.
The new CTL 2go Classmate PC NL3 has a 10 inch display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. The display can be folded down over the keyboard for using the computer in the tablet mode. The convertible comes with a stylus which allows you to write or draw on the tablet’s resistive touchpanel.
CTL offers the netbook with a 1.66GHz N2600 processor. The device will reportedly get up to 10 hours of battery life. Earlier models with Pine Trail processors used to get only around 6.5 hours of uptime.
The Cedar Trail chips also offer improved video performance and because of that reason CTL has added HDMI output port to the laptop. Other specifications include up to 2GB of RAM, a hard drive or a solid state drive, WiFi, Bluetooth and optional 3G. The CTL 2GO NL3 starts at $499.

CLOSER LOOK AT THE SAMSUNG SERIES 5 ULTRABOOK
The Samsung Series 5 ultrabooks are available in two sizes – one with a 13.3 inch display and the other with a 14 inch display. The 13 incher starts at $899. The 14 incher has a DVD drive and a starting price of $949.
That DVD drive is perhaps the most outstanding feature of the Series 5 ultrabook. While it is quite common to find 14 inch or 15 inch thin and lightlaptops with built in DVD drives, none of the ultrabooks we have seen so far incorporate one. That’s probably because ultrabooks are super thin laptopswhose thin chassis can hardly accomodate a DVD drive. The fact that the Samsung ultrabook has a DVD drive also means that it is going to be a bit thicker than other ultrabooks.
The Samsung Series 5 ultrabooks have also got USB 3.0 ports, HDMI, VGA ports and built-in Ethernet. The display is of the matte variety which makes it kind of readable in direct sunlight.
Both models are expected to be available later this month.

CLOSER LOOK AT THE TOSHIBA NB510 CEDAR TRAIL ATOM NETBOOK
The Toshiba NB510 is a shiny little laptop with Intel’s new Cedar Trail Atom processor. It is the latest 10 inch netbook from Toshiba and doesn’t look all that different from the netbooks the company launched in 2011.
The NB510 is available with a choice of Intel Atom N2600 or Atom N2800processor. The 10 inch display has a resolution of 1024 x 600 pixels. It has up to 2GB of RAM (base configuration has 1GB) and 320GB of storage.
The Cedar Trail Atom processors offer decent video playback and that probably explains why the NB510 has an HDMI output port. Other specifications include VGA port, Ethernet jack and 3 USB ports. The battery seems to be user replaceable.

FUJITSU LAUNCHES ARROWS TAB RUGGED TABLET
Most water proof tablets on the market can survive only a few drops of water. So what will happen if you immerse the device in a bowl of water? Well, in all likelihood the tablet will sustain damage unless of course it is the Arrows Tab built by Fujitsu. This 10 inch tablet is really water resistant. It has a rugged design that will protect it from damage even when it is submerged in water.
The Fujitsu Arrows Tab doesn’t look all that different from typical 10 inch tablets. It has got its ports covered with little plastic doors. But that is nothing unusual. A lot of tablets out there have ports covered with pieces of plastic.
The Arrows Tab is powered by a 1GHz TI OMAP4430 dual core processor. It runs the Google Android 3.2 operating system. The 10.1 inch display has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. It measures about half an inch in thickness and weighs about 1.3 pounds.

TOSHIBA LAUNCHES 14 INCH SATELLITE ULTRABOOK
Toshiba has added a new laptop to its ultrabook lineup. The new model will bear the Toshiba Satellite brand name.
The 14 inch Toshiba Satellite ultrabook will start at $799. It has a 1366 x 768 pixels display, 1 USB 3.0, 2 USB 2.0 ports, an Ethernet port and HDMI output for transferring video to an external monitor. While typical ultrabooks have SSD storage, this model has a hard drive with a small solid state disk. It has also got an SD card slot for expanding storage.
Ultrabooks are ultrathin and light laptops with Intel’s latest processors. It is not clear whether this model has a discrete graphics option.
The Toshiba Satellite ultrabook will ship early this year with Windows 7 operating system. It could get upgraded to Windows 8 later this year.

The new Gigabyte S1081 has an Intel Cedar Trail processor, HDMI, VGA, USB 3.0, Bluetooth 4.0 and a 1.3 megapixel webcam. It can be configured with an SSD or a 500GB hard drive. That makes the tablet a little more powerful than typical Atom-powered tablets. The Gigabyte is also offering an optional multimedia docking station with the tablet.
The Gigabyte T1006M convertible tablet-style netbook too has got the Cedar Trail update. It has a 10 inch capacitive touchscreen display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. The display can be folded down over the keyboard for using the laptop in the tablet mode. The Gigabyte T1006M has also got USB 3.0 port and a 6-cell battery.

ASUS EEE PC X101 GETS CEDAR TRAIL ATOM UPDATE
The Asus Eee PC X101 has got a Cedar Trail Atom processor. Precisely the new model – the Eee PC X101CH – has got a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N2600 dual core processor. This is the second Cedar Trail Atom powered netbook Asus introduced this week. The first model is the Eee PC 1025C.
The new laptop will ship in February for $269. It can decode 720p HD video and supports DirectX 10 graphics. It has also got 1GB of RAM and a 320GB hard drive.
The Eee PC X101 is slimmer than the Eee PC 1025C, but that super thin profile comes at a cost. It has got just 2 USB 2.0 ports and a smaller 3-cell battery which will get only around 4 hours of battery life. On the bright side the laptop is incredibly light. It measures just 2.3 pounds and still manages to make room for VGA, HDMI, headphone, mic and SD card slots.
The Asus Eee PC X101CH will be available in black, red and white.

ASUS EEE PAD TRANSFORMER PRIME GETS HD DISPLAY
Asus will soon launch an updated version of its Eee Pad Transformer Prime Android tablet. The basic features of the laptop will remain intact but the new model will have a full HD display with 1920 x 1200 pixels. The original model had a 1280 x 800 pixels display.
Now that the tablet has got a full HD display, you will be able to watch 1080p HD videos without converting them to a lower resolution format first.
The Eee Pad Transformer Prime has a 1.3GHz NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core processor and an optional keyboard dock that when docked will turn the tablet into a laptop. The keyboard dock has also got a battery of its own. While the original model – the TF201 – has a 1.2MP camera, the new model - the TF700T - has a 2 megapixel camera. Other specifications include 8 megapixel camera on the rear side, 32GB to 64GB of storage and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich operating system. It will sell between $599 and $699.

SAMSUNG SERIES 5 ULTRABOOKS TO START AT $899
The Samsung Series 5 ultrabooks will start shipping this month for prices starting at $899. Two models will be available – one with a 13 inch display and another with a 14 inch display.
Like most Samsung laptops, the Series 5 ultrabooks too will have matte displays which make them kind of readable in bright surroundings. Glossy displays look great indoors but are nearly useless in direct sunlight because they produce a lot of glare which turns them into mirrors.
The Samsung Series 5 ultrabooks will have USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, a full-sized HDMI output port and an SD card slot for expanding storage.
Three different models will be available in the US:
The first model has a 13.3 inch display and 500GB of hard drive with 16GB of SSD. It runs $899. The second model has a 13.3 inch display and 128GB of SSD. It runs $1099. The third model has a 14 inch display with 500GB HDD/16GB SSD and a DVD drive. It runs $949.

ASUS TO LAUNCH EEE PC 1025C CEDAR TRAIL NETBOOK IN FEBRUARY
Asus is expected to launch its Cedar Trail Atom powered 10 inch netbooks in February. One of the first Asus netbooks to sport Intel’s third generation Atom processors is the Eee PC 1025C. The base configuration which runs $299 will have a 1.6GHz Intel Atom N2600 processor. A higher-end model with the 1.86GHz Atom N2800 will be available for $319. This particular model will be called Eee PC 1025CE.
Both models will have a 10.1 inch display with 1024 x 600 pixels. Other specifications include 1GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, VGA webcams, VGA, HDMI output port, headphone and mic. They will also have an SDHC card slot for expanding storage.
Both models come standard with a 6-cell, 56Whr battery. The cheaper model will get slightly better battery life (up to 10 hours) thanks to its slower processor that consumes less energy.
While the Eee PC 1025C has 3 USB 2.0 ports, the 1025CE has 2 USB 2.0 and 1 USB 3.0 port. They will be available in a variety of shades including gray, blue, pink, red and black.

FIRST LOOK AT LENOVO IDEAPAD S200 ANDROID TABLET
Lenovo unveiled a new ultraportable notebook at CES this week. The Lenovo IdeaPad S200 is pretty cheap for an ultraportable notebook, but that is hardly surprising: It has netbook internals. On the bright side, it has a full-sized keyboard and a larger display.
The Lenovo Ideapad S200 will start at $349. It has an 11.6 inch display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. It will be powered by an Intel Atom Cedar Trail dual core processor. The Cedar Trail Atom chips aren’t significantly faster than the existing Pine Trail Atom chips. But they are more power efficient and have got better graphics capabilities.
The IdeaPad S200 will be slightly slower than typical ultraportables, thanks to its netbook processor. However, it will still be able to meet your everyday computing needs. And because it has got a larger screen and keyboard, it might feel like a full-fledged laptop. What’s more it has got an HDMI output port to take advantage of the HD video playback capabilities of the Cedar Trail processor.
Lenovo also plans to offer an S206 model with an AMD Fusion processor. No word on availability at the moment.
